Internet of Trains

We all know IOT to be a very new thing that everyone thinks will change the world but IOT in today's real world has already a synonym and it's the Internet of Trains. A System developed by Siemens engineers has the capabilities to check the data feed from different IOT sensors attached to trains and capture that data against the malfunctioning of the locomotives. This data is being used to train machine learning models, but why? Well these models can be used to predict when a malfunction can occur on a time series basis. This method essentially creates a fail safe system for the trains.

Siemens claims it can receive 1 to 4 billion datapoints from a single locomotive for a period of a year. Imagine this data dump for a full network within a region. Each locomotive has 800 datapoints giving data on real time basis such as Vibrations, Speed, Equipment Performance, Temparuture and so on.

A new locomotive service HUB in Newcastle Delaware will maintain Siemens locomotives for customers across the US.

Siemens has also teamed up with Amtrak to track Siemen's built locomotives and it's already showing results !
